After his election as Pope 1978 October 17, his first words were "Be not afraid ... to open wide the doors to Christ."
Three main challenges before him:
1, to rescue Vatican II from it false interpreters. Huermeutic of discontinuity(from the tradition) and of reform (partly continuity).
Cardinal Zen of HongKong said, Vatican II is "发展，不是造反" growing ,not rebellious.
2, to restore the sense of Orthodoxy among the faithfuls.
3. to inspire the world with a Catholic vision of life.
After 2005, April 19, Benedict XVI focuses on "the recovery of the Sacred" and speak to all human beings about Jesus Christ. At the same time try to revival the supernatural and renewed commitment to Christ.
From "Love" to "hope", he tries to help people to understand the real divine love and authentic hope is from Jesus Christ.
